Han Solo at the Cantina Bar in Mos Eisley
Greedo hunted Han Solo for the bounty Jabba placed on his head after the smuggler dropped a large shipment of illicit cargo owned by the Hutt to avoid arrest, and found him at the cantina bar. He was humiliated briefly at the Mos Eisley cantina when he was tripped by a piece of the instrument used by Ickabel G’ont, a member of the Model Nodes. He decided to ignore the insult, seeing payback against Solo as sweeter than revenge on the Nodes. Upon entering in cantina, Greedo saw how Wuher ordered the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 to get out. While the Rodian steeled himself mentally for the encounter, he thought about how his former lover Uncelta fell for Solo before this one broke her heart.
While at the bar, Greedo saw his cohort Ponda Baba lose an arm to a lightsaber, an event at which he merely laughed. However, this prevented Baba and Doctor Cornelius Evazan from assisting Greedo, as had been previously planned.
Greedo challenged Han Solo at the Mos Eisley Cantina, where, threatening Han with his gun, he demanded that he pay the money to Jabba and/or to Greedo himself; or hand over the Millennium Falcon. When Han replied that he would rather die than give up his ship, Greedo said that was the idea before announcing that that was something he had been looking forward to for a long time. As Greedo pulled his trigger, Han shot Greedo dead from beneath the table with his readily prepared blaster. Greedo, being a poor shot, missed Han completely and the last thing that Greedo ever saw was a flash of bright light with a memory of bitter injustice.
Why is Han Solo on Tatoonie?
Han Solo is on Tatooine at the beginning of A New Hope because he just recently tried to meet with Jabba to discuss the fact that he had been boarded by Imperials and had to jettison his cargo of glitterstim. Jabba, however, was unresponsive and unwilling to meet with Han.
Han was still attempting to get a meeting with Jabba to avoid conflict, or to acquire enough money to pay off Jabba. Jabba, however, decided to send bounty hunters to collect the money or Han’s corpse.
Until Greedo showed up, Han was doing exactly the opposite of trying to avoid Jabba – he was specifically trying to get a chance to actually talk to him. When Greedo shows up, Han initially implores Greedo to pass along Han’s message. Instead, Greedo pulls a blaster. Unfortunately for Greedo, he never gets a shot off before Han shoots him first.
Mos Eisley Cantina
The Mos Eisley cantina is a dimly-lit tavern known for its strong drinks, hot tunes, and occasional outbreaks of shocking violence. Most star pilots visiting Tatooine spend their downtime in the cantina, making it an ideal spot to hire a starship’s crew.
The cantina’s bad reputation had grown worse by the time of the Empire, with thugs of all species calling the dusty watering hole their home away from home. But the cantina was also a favorite stopping place for star pilots looking to run cargo or arrange a charter – which is why Obi-Wan Kenobi visited the bar with Luke Skywalker. Obi-Wan hoped to find a star pilot who’d bring him, the boy and Princess Leia’s droids to Alderaan, without asking a lot of questions. Within the crowd of aliens, Obi-Wan and Luke crossed paths with Han Solo and Chewbacca, down-on-their-luck smugglers destined to become rebel heroes.
